About Paul Stefan Ort

Here is a snapshot of my life as it is at this time. I apologize for the myopic nature of the material. When I describe myself as having certain beliefs or practices, it an expression of my intention and the reality which I generally strive to realize, though my execution and maintenance of ideals is far from perfect.

I am painfully aware of my own tendencies toward pride and must continually battle against them. Pursuit of lofty ideals can easily become nothing other than self-congratulation and prideful vainglory. I welcome correction and insight in this matter.

Nevertheless, there is also a sense in which I believe that prudent stewardship of aptitudes, opportunities, and interactions effected by Providence demands discipline and devotion. The possibility (and inevitability) of failing in aspects of one's life work and falling into pride at times does not invalidate the imperfect presence of desires for humility and wise productivity.

It is my cautious but sincere belief that disposition of my heart is tending to grow in humility, yet this is on the basis of purposes of Providence, not my own intrinsic growth. One important means for collaborating with others having similar objectives and interests for the realization of increased growth and progress is the sharing of one's own agendas. It is in this spirit that I share these details about myself.

Family

During this time of singleness, I aim to make wise preparations for the likely forming of my own family in the future. My parents have taught me much and I am deeply indebted to them for their wisdom, responsibility, and direction. They undertook home education and sought to provide high-quality opportunities for learning, for which I am grateful. Their attempts at instruction, while frequently not met with appropriate responsiveness, were valuable. I appreciate their counsel.

Church

I am privileged and grateful to be part of Grace Bible Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

It is my conviction that participation in the local church is of essential importance, being instituted by God for the purpose of realizing His purposes for His people.

While I believe that the use of labels can lead to oversimplification and trivialization, my Christian doctrinal convictions are generally Reformed and baptistic, in broad agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith.

Writings

I am convinced that writing is one of the most critical skills that can be developed. I write because it forces me to think more deeply and because I hope to occasionally have something worthwhile to say. Regardless of whether one publishes anything that one writes, there are immense personal benefits to the practice of writing.

For myself, I have found it beneficial to write in these ways:

  • maintaining a journal
  • recording rising and resting times every day
  • recording the major events of each day
  • recording consumption of food and engagement in physical exercise
  • documenting of music practice sessions
  • analyzing and summarizing books I have read
  • writing articles and treatises on topics of personal interest

Some of my writings are publicly available through my blog. Most are concealed at this time, as well they should be.
