What

I plan to release a revised version of paulstefanort.com soon.

Four primary changes are planned.

1. Switch from Wordpress to Drupal

Wordpress is a fabulous blogging platform, but I want more than a blog.

Drupal offers complete site building tools and is an extensible framework for adding custom functionality where necessary. A completely original web publishing system would be unnecessary and wasteful at this point, so I will use the tools available in Drupal.

2. Create clearly defined sections

The new site will have sections for these primary content types:

  • blog (for general comments)
  • about (a general personal introduction)
  • work (a portfolio of experiences and enterprises)
  • library (a record of items in my library with my own remarks)
  • writings (for papers and documents longer than blog posts)
  • music (for musical pursuits, particularly pertaining to violin and piano)

3. Segment subscription feeds

The new site will feature multiple RSS feeds for syndicating specific content types:

  • everything from the site (similar to the current single feed structure)
  • work entries
  • blog posts
  • library additions
  • writings
  • music entries

This segmentation will foster increased topical focus.

Is it presumptuous and arrogant to think that anyone will subscribe, or even that the content will be worthy of subscription? Perhaps. It is also, however, worthwhile to pursue the creation or compilation of valuable information for broad distribution.

4. Implement an original site design

The new site will feature a custom theme for Drupal. It will be an original HTML/CSS design and will hopefully incorporate best practices for markup and visual design for the modern web.

When

A development version of the new site is running on my laptop. When the remaining critical issues have been resolved, it will be deployed.

I am hoping to be able to release the site in May 2010.

You can subscribe to be notified when it is released.
