Designing Websites Directly in HTML/CSS March 11, 2010
I worked on a web redesign project today. In the interest of saving time, I worked directly on the HTML and CSS for the pages instead of creating a Photoshop or Fireworks mockup first.
I used Photoshop only to create a header image and identify color codes.
The layout is a two-column structure beneath a masthead incorporating global navigation. Creating the simple layout was made much easier by developing the only deliverable in the final format.
I recommend trying this approach to page and interface design, as it can eliminate many distractions, permitting a productive focus on implementing essential features rather than a preoccupation with a complex tool.
