I am writing a couple of papers on the historical development of music.

It is impossible to cover everything in a paper, though I have unsuccessfully tried.

One challenge when writing about the topic is to select composers for discussion.

Most of the composers mentioned in a textbook cannot be mentioned in a limited paper summarizing the topic. Many worthy subjects are not even included in textbooks in the first place. Even the composers that are discussed can only be partially explored.

In any case, the study of history necessarily describes entire lifetimes in a few words. Though life seems to move slowly at times, it is quickly forgotten.  Developments which may seem significant to a particular person may prove to be inconsequential in the estimation of future observers.

If your life were to be described in a sentence, what would you wish for it to be? Live in such a way as to promote the likelihood of that outcome.
